PCEIP presents a statistical portrait of the elementary, secondary, and postsecondary education systems in various formats such as data tables, fact sheets, and reports. These products can be accessed on-line via the . The goal of PCEIP is to provide consistent and high-quality information on education from all provinces and territories to support informed decision making, policy development, and program creation.
PCEIP has two main areas of work:
- Harmonizing data across Canada's provinces and territories:
The PCEIP indicator tables and fact sheets provide Canada-level as well as jurisdiction-level information. Tables are updated as data become available. Data tables and fact sheets can be found .
- Facilitating the international comparison of educational systems at the pan-Canadian level:
The annual report, ÀóÖ¦Ö±²¥ Indicators in Canada: An International Perspective, supports the comparison of educational systems in Canada’s provinces and territories with member countries of the .
The indicators in PCEIP capture a wide range of data in education, including the five main areas below:
- A portrait of the school-age population
E.g., population size, cultural diversity, low income, and family background
- Financing education systems
E.g., total expenditures on education, public and private expenditures on education, and student debt
- Elementary-secondary education
E.g., enrolments, educators, and student achievement
- Postsecondary education
E.g., enrolment, completion and graduation rates, educators, research and development, literacy, educational attainment of the population aged 25-64, and adult education
- Transitions and outcomes
E.g., transitions to postsecondary education and the labour market, and labour market outcomes
