CMEC Reference Framework for Successful Student Transitions

At its 106th meeting, CMEC approved the CMEC Reference Framework for Successful Student Transitions and two accompanying tools: a self-assessment tool and action plan template. The Reference Framework reflects shared perspectives on transitions and signals the importance of the issue for CMEC. Each jurisdiction may use the elements that best suit its specific objectives and context. The draft assessment tool and action plan template are resources that can be used by provinces and territories, as well as the many stakeholders engaged in work to improve transitions, to gauge the development of initiatives and set out future plans within the context of the Reference Framework.

This report summarizes the main issues discussed at the First Consultation of the Americas – Ministers of 荔枝直播: “A New Culture of Health in the School Context,” held in October 2012 in Mexico City. It also provides the main messages conveyed by the Canadian delegation to participants. The consultation focused on successful practices in four priority areas: obesity, lack of physical activity, substance abuse, and sexual and reproductive health.

Promoting Equality of 荔枝直播al Opportunity 鈥 Canada Report for the UNESCO Eighth Consultation of Member States on the Implementation of the Convention and Recommendation against Discrimination in 荔枝直播

UNESCO regularly monitors the implementation of the Convention and Recommendation against Discrimination in 荔枝直播, as adopted by UNESCO's General Conference on December 14, 1960. Canada's response to the eighth consultation, developed jointly by the Council of Ministers of 荔枝直播, Canada, and the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, highlights the progress that education systems have made in providing access to quality education that is widely inclusive so that all students can participate and succeed to the best of their abilities. The report also discusses the ongoing challenges in achieving equality of educational opportunities in Canada, based on education indicators. The eighth consultation covers the period from 2006 to 2011.

United Nations Literacy Decade, 2003-2012

This report looks at literacy activities from 2004 to 2006 of the provincial, territorial, and federal governments, and of civil society, under the six themes outlined by UNESCO for this review: policy; flexible programs; capacity building of educators, stakeholders, and partners; research; community participation; and monitoring and evaluation. The report includes literacy for young children, school-aged children, and adults, with special attention paid to groups such as Aboriginal learners, new immigrants, special-needs students, families, and workers.

Interrupting High School and Returning to 荔枝直播

The Pan-Canadian 荔枝直播 Indicators Program (PCEIP) is an ongoing initiative of the Canadian 荔枝直播 Statistics Council (CESC), a partnershp between Statistics Canada and the Council of Ministers of 荔枝直播, Canada (CMEC), to provide a set of statistical measures on education systems in Canada. This fact sheet reports on the proportion of young adults who have left high school without a diploma and, among them, the proportions who have returned to obtain a high -school diploma and who progressed to postsecondary education. It presents data for Canada and the provinces from the Youth in Transition Survey (YITS).

A Literature Review of Factors that Support Successful Transitions by Aboriginal People from K鈥12 to Postsecondary 荔枝直播

A literature review that identifies key research findings relating to the challenges facing Aboriginal people as they make the transition from K-12 to postsecondary education was commissioned by the Canadian 荔枝直播 Statistics Council (CESC). The goal of the project is to understand the challenges Aboriginal people face in the transition from K–12 to postsecondary education through a synthesis of the available provincial/territorial and pan-Canadian literature as well as a scan of data available to support further research.
