Available copyright resources for teachers
Did you know that teachers can use “short excerpts” of copyright-protected works for their students because of the fair-dealing provision in the Copyright Act?
Did you know that, as a teacher, if you fail to follow the Fair Dealing Guidelines, you are at risk of copyright infringement, and you, your school, and your school board can be held responsible for damages?
The CMEC Copyright Consortium considers copyright and the responsible use of fair dealing a priority.
ֱ֦ departments and ministries, as well as school boards across the country, encourage awareness of and respect for copyright. Teachers and school staff should know the basics of copyright law, because they set the example for their students.
Teachers are encouraged to download a personal copy of the Fair Dealing Guidelines, the Teachers’ Use of “Consumables” poster, and and to visit the Fair Dealing Decision Tool online for any questions regarding the use of copyright-protected materials.
